Network Authentication Leader, InkBridge Networks, Names Its Director of Security

As cyberthreats evolve to target network authentication, InkBridge Networks taps expert security practitioner Terry Burton to scale its industry-leading security practices.

[Ottawa]: InkBridge Networks, global leader in network authentication security and the company behind the world's most widely used RADIUS server, has promoted distinguished enterprise security architect Terry Burton to the newly created position of Director of Security. This strategic appointment strengthens InkBridge's leadership in enterprise network authentication as organizations face increasingly sophisticated security challenges.

Enterprise Security Leadership Expansion

Burton brings over two decades of critical infrastructure design, operation and security expertise, having worked alongside Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, educational institutions, and global financial institutions to protect users from emerging cyber threats. As a recognized authority in architecting secure IT platforms, he implemented some of the earliest secure DNS infrastructures for enterprise networks. His security frameworks have been instrumental in thwarting state-sponsored industrial espionage attempts.

"InkBridge Networks doesn't just implement network security standards – we define them," says Burton." As Director of Security, I'm excited to expand our role in shaping enterprise authentication. We're uniquely positioned to solve the complex challenges facing modern networks because we understand these systems at their core – we literally wrote the protocols that power them."

Authentication Security Innovation

Don't build network security teams based on buzzwords and certifications.

InkBridge CEO and FreeRADIUS creator Alan DeKok emphasizes the strategic importance of strong security leadership: "In enterprise network security, I don't build teams based on buzzwords or certifications. I look for security architects who understand authentication protocols at their core – experts who can read RFC specifications and spot the security implications that others miss. Terry exemplifies this expertise. When you're maintaining authentication systems that secure hundreds of millions of users daily, you need engineers who understand why security standards exist, not just how to implement them."

Enterprise Network Security Strategy

Security isn't an add-on feature – it's the foundation of everything we build," Burton explains. "Modern network security demands two critical elements: security by design, where protective measures are embedded in the architecture from day one, and human-centric security, which recognizes that every staff member plays a crucial role in maintaining system integrity."

Burton's approach aligns perfectly with InkBridge's commitment to continuous improvement. "Every support interaction is an opportunity to strengthen our systems. We don't just solve problems – we analyze why they occurred and enhance our processes, documentation, and tools to prevent similar issues across our entire customer base."

DeKok adds context to this philosophy: "Most organizations handle major authentication system upgrades once every five years. That's not enough frequency to develop deep expertise. We build these systems multiple times per week, which means we've encountered – and solved – virtually every edge case and security challenge imaginable."

As Security Director, Burton will focus on scaling InkBridge's proven security practices as the company grows. His mandate includes developing robust security frameworks that maintain InkBridge's high standards while supporting rapid team expansion.

In the authentication and security space, there's no room for “good enough.”

"In the authentication and security space, there's no room for 'good enough,'" Burton concludes. "Our customers trust us with their network security because we've proven, time and again, that we hold ourselves to a higher standard. As we grow, that standard only gets higher."
