When authentication slows down, everything else on the network slows down. For a carrier with millions of subscribers, the RADIUS server handles every login, every session, and every accounting record, and it has to keep doing that when something fails.

AAA for telecom operators (Authentication, Authorisation, and Accounting) looks different at that scale. The design choices that hold up at a few hundred thousand subscribers do not always hold up at 10 million.

In this free webinar, Alan DeKok, Founder and CEO of InkBridge Networks and lead maintainer of FreeRADIUS, will walk through two case studies of FreeRADIUS running at carrier scale:

  • How AT&T designed its FreeRADIUS deployment for a customer base of about 15 million, and the architecture decisions that kept RADIUS from becoming the bottleneck.

  • How Telkom Indonesia used distributed authentication to detect credential sharing as its subscriber base grew from 4 million to 10 million, without affecting legitimate subscribers.

Alan will also share three questions every ISP should ask about its AAA stack, and where FreeRADIUS ends and where commercial InkBridge support begins.

AT&T and Telkom Indonesia are discussed in case studies prepared independently by InkBridge. Their appearance does not imply endorsement of this webinar or of InkBridge Networks.

What we'll cover

  • How AT&T kept RADIUS from becoming the bottleneck for a customer base of about 15 million

  • How Telkom Indonesia used distributed authentication to detect credential sharing as its subscriber base grew from 4 million to 10 million, without affecting legitimate subscribers

  • Three questions every ISP should ask about its AAA stack

  • Where FreeRADIUS ends and where commercial InkBridge support begins

  • Live Q&A with Alan DeKok

Format

60 minutes, with both case studies presented in turn, followed by live Q&A with Alan DeKok. Jana Sedivy moderates.

This is a free webinar for people who run, or plan to run, FreeRADIUS for large subscriber bases.

Everyone who registers will receive access to the webinar recording.

Who should attend

  • Network engineers and architects at ISPs and telecom operators

  • Engineering leads responsible for AAA and subscriber authentication

  • Operators dealing with credential sharing or subscriber abuse

  • Teams weighing FreeRADIUS against commercial RADIUS support

If your network authenticates subscribers at scale, or expects to, this session shows how two large operators approached the problem.

A free, 30-minute live session with time reserved at the end for audience Q&A. A recording will be made available to everyone who registers.
